10 Simple Ways To Increase Blog Traffic That You Can Implement Today

This article aims to spell out the simple things that you can do today to increase traffic on your blog immediately.  None of these 10 tasks are hard, but all of them will increase your blog following dramatically if you take a “Back to the Basics” approach to writing a good blog.

Exciting Titles

This seems silly, but many people just don’t title their blog posts in a compelling way.  Use action words, offer grandiose promises, project over-confidence, or predict dire consequences.  All of these tactics will draw more people to click on the link and read the page.

Creative Content

Exciting titles only get you the first click.  If you have an enticing title, but the blog post is boring, you are dead in the water and they will never come back.  Either be creative with your posts, or hire someone to do it for you.

Be Bold

Along that same vein, be as bold in your posts as you are in the titles.  Make sure you come through on the promise you made with the exciting title.  Let your opinions fly, wear your emotions on your sleeve, call a duck a duck, and deliver with an strong-willed blog post every time.

Entertaining your audience is almost as important (if not more important) than delivering on your promise.  People enjoy an article that they learn something from, but they will come back to a blog that makes them laugh.  Try to inject humor into every blog, this will increase your return-viewers and increase the likelihood of your blog getting recommended through the various social media sites.

List Posts

Like the post you are reading right now, these are often a quick and easy way to display a lot of valuable information into a short, concise post.  People are drawn to these types of posts, and they can also lead to longer articles as you elaborate on each idea in the future.

Build Credibility

Again, list posts are a great way to do this, but frequent intelligent posting on your niche will do the trick as well.  You should also be using the various social media avenues to drive viewership, develop a following, and build your credibility in your field as well.

Comment, Comment, Comment

This is a great way to get more high-quality blog subscribers.  Every time someone leaves a comment for you, comment back to them personally.  Every time you read an interesting blog, make a comment on their blog and invite them to view yours if they are interested.  Make your comments substantive, they need to say more than “Nice post, check out my blog at xyz”.

Join Conversations

Starting a conversation is one thing, joining conversations is another great way to get your name (and your blog) in front of people.  Go out and find some blogs in your niche that are really generating some great dialogue and dive right in.  You don’t even need to actively promote your blog in these conversations (simply include a link after the comment), just make intelligent comments and people will click on your link if they like what you have to say.

Build Relationships

As you make more comments and join more conversations, deepen some of those key connections and build actual relationships.  You should also be doing this on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.  Each of these places has a slightly different audience, and you should be maximizing them all to build more relationships which will lead to many more subscribers in the future.

Interlink Your Articles

This is one that I have to get better at, but it is the key to getting more views per visit.  How many times have you clicked on a link inside of a blog post because the linked article sounded interesting?  I have done it more times than I can count, yet most blog posters never interlink their articles.  Mostly because they write their articles at different times, and the one article didn’t even exist when they wrote the other.  Take some time and go back to interlink as many articles in related posts as you can.  This will pay off in the future.

I hope that these tips and tricks were helpful.  Try to take one or two of the ideas and implement them immediately to increase your blog following today.  Please feel free to follow me @MrEmergingMedia on Twitter for some more tips on Social Media and Branding.  Thanks!
