Top 10 Ways To Increase Your Subscriber Count On YouTube

Top 10 Ways To Increase Your Subscriber Count On YouTube

Make The Channel Name Compelling

Like it or not, people are more likely to subscribe to a channel with a cool name than they are to subscribe to JohnSmith9’s channel.  Invest some time into thinking of a creative name, it will also show them that you are more creative and might entice a few more people to click on your videos.

Customize Your Channel

Make sure that you come up with a cool channel background, fill out your entire profile, and make sure you use all of the proper tags.  All of these will separate you from the rest of the pack who invests all of their time in the videos and ignores the basics.

Utilize Your Personal Network

Ask some of your friends and coworkers to subscribe to your channel.  The more subscribers you have, the higher your videos will show up in search, which will lead to you getting more subscribers in the future.  By getting a few subscribers up front, you will increase your total subscribers later.

Twitter Can Help!

Come up with an awesome twitter feed with the same name as your YouTube account.  Promote each of the two accounts with the other.  Send out cool videos to your followers, and then sprinkle yours in too, and you will suddenly see your subscriber count rise.

Facebook Can Help!

You can probably see a theme here, but using the other social media sites to drive people to your YouTube account will drastically increase your subscriber count in the long run.  Set up a facebook fan page and promote your Twitter and YouTube accounts.  Also, linking your videos to this page will help your videos show up higher in the search results on YouTube.

Send Out Friend Requests

Send out friend requests…lots of them!  The odds of people checking out your account after getting a friends request are extremely high, so don’t do this until you have your account set up right…but then do it all of the time!  Find a ton of accounts in your niche and send out friend requests to everyone, your subscriber count will skyrocket.

Upload Lots Of Videos

This seems obvious, but way too many accounts try to get big with only one or two videos.  Having more videos increases your odds of showing up in searches (obviously) and will lead to more subscribers in the long run.  They don’t all have to be on the same topic, covering many topics will actually increase your reach exponentially.

Upload Videos Regularly

Another common mistake is for someone to make 40 videos and upload them all immediately to try to get more bang for their buck.  It is a much better strategy to release 1 or 2 videos each week.  This gives people a reason to subscribe (to be notified when you post new videos) and can even get people to anticipate your postings if you coordinate it on a certain day each week.

Make Them Want To Click On Your Videos

Please check out my other blog post (5 Ways To Make The Perfect Amateur YouTube Video) on how to make the perfect amateur YouTube video, but here are some quick things to think about.  You need to have an amazing video title, a cool thumbnail pic, a great description, and awesome tags.  If you have all of these things, you will be ahead of 80% of the videos on YouTube and your views (along with your subscribers) will rise much faster than the average account.

Comment, Comment, Comment

Again, this seems obvious but most YouTube users do not do this.  Go out and find like-minded accounts in your niche and comment on their videos and their channels.  Make these comments substantial, not just a “cool video” comment.  The odds of the account clicking your name and checking out your account are high, but even more importantly, the people who view that account’s video may also check out your account.  You should spend an hour every day commenting on videos all over YouTube, this will lead to an enormous amount of subscribers in the long run.

I hope these tips and tricks help you get more subscribers on YouTube.  Feel free to follow me @MrEmergingMedia on Twitter for more helpful tips on Social Media and Branding.  Thanks!
