Top 5 Ways To Get ReTweeted

Top 5 Ways To Get ReTweeted

Getting a ReTweet on Twitter is one of the biggest forms of flattery for those of us who tweet for a living.  While there are many ways to get ReTweeted on Twitter, there are certain types of posts that seem to get a RT more often than others.  Take a look at these suggestions and see which of these types of tweets is the best fit for your twitter feed.

Breaking News

Comment on the hot breaking news of the day.  If you are the one who breaks the news to your followers, they are very likely to RT the news from your account.  Make the tweet hilarious, or a play on words, and your odds of getting RT’d go up dramatically.

Trending Topics

On a similar vein, check out what is hot on Twitter that day and tweet about those topics.  Using trending hashtags, reposting funny content, or alerting your followers to the coolest things on Twitter on any given day is a great way to get ReTweeted.

Be Hilarious

Humor is the most underrated commodity on Twitter.  Think of the last 5 things you ReTweeted, and more than likely 3 out of the 5 were hilarious.  People tend to RT funny stuff, so either be funny, or find other tweets that are funny that you can copy.

Be Interesting

The other 2 RTs in your last five were probably something really interesting.  Interesting facts, tips, or how-to suggestions are a great way to get ReTweeted by your followers.  Being interesting is also an awesome way to get new followers, which is what will happen if you start getting RT’d on a regular basis.

Quotes

I happen to be partial to quotes, having published over 20 quotation books, but these can be a helpful tool for almost every Twitter account.  First, everyone likes quotes.  Second, they are easy to find and easy to post.  Third, they happen to be one of the most likely types of posts to get ReTweeted.  If you are having trouble coming up with enough content on your feed to make 5 twitter posts a day, think about filling up the rest of your tweets with famous, funny, or interesting quotations.

I hope that helps you all get RT’d more often.  Check out my twitter feed @MrEmergingMedia for more great tips and tricks on social media and branding.  Thanks!
